The Damage to the Orange {&
Alexandria} Railroad |
A complete reconnaissance of
the Orange & Alexandria Railroad shows that all the bridges
between Charlottesville and North Garden were destroyed, including the
large structures over North and South Hardware, Rockfish, Tye River,
Turner's Creek and Buffalo -- aggregating about 1500 feet in length --
with about 6 miles of Railway track more or less injured -- and all
the Depots East of Amherst with the exception of Lovingston and Tye
