We learn that two or three
cargoes of iron have lately been landed for the New Orleans &
Texas road {Texas & New Orleans RR}.
These cargoes were not brought into the harbor until the United States
revenue service had been given up, so that they paid no duties to that
government. A clear savings of about ten thousand dollars was thus
effected. Whatever tariff is to be laid on importations, it is much to
be hoped that this on iron will be done away with. This road is being
pushed rapidly through, and gives promise of being, ere long, one of
the great features of our State. |
