Railroads are progressing. We are informed
that the road from Sabine Pass {Eastern Texas
RR} is now graded to Beaumont, and that the iron is being laid
down at the rate of half a mile a day. Some eight or ten miles are
already done. This will render a connection by rail between this city
and Sabine Pass certain by the month of February, when the time hence
to New Orleans will doubtless be shortened by at least 12 hours. It is
expected that the bulk of the travel between New Orleans and Texas
will at once take this route. |
The S. A. & M. G. road {San
Antonio & Mexican Gulf RR}, we are glad to learn, is now
completed to the precincts of the town of Victoria. The amount of
railroad now completed in the State is as follows: |
