Sad Accident on the Western {North
Carolina} R. R. |
A land slide on the Western Extension, six
miles from here, caused a sad accident last Thursday morning, by which
James Briggs (a member of Capt. J. A. Wood's company, of the 4th Reg't
N. C. T.) lost his life. He was standing on the platform when the
train struck the slide, and was caught between the cars. Both his legs
were broken, and he was otherwise badly injured. He died in a bout one
hour after the accident. This, we believe, is the first accident,
resulting in loss of life on this Road. |
