The Piedmont Railroad |
The Danville Register says it is thought
with the present working force employed on the Piedmont Railroad, the
cars may probably run through by the 1st of July, 1864. As the rails
are placed as far as Reidsville, and the laying of the track having
already commenced at this end {the Greensboro
end} of the road, we were under the impression that the trains
would run through at a much early period than above specified. |
The Government is now transporting army
supplies from this post by wagon trains to Reidsville, whence they are
conveyed by rail to Danville. |
