Charlotte & S. C. Railroad |
The report of the President, Col. Wm.
Johnston, to the late annual meeting of this Company shows that it has
shared fully in the prosperity of railroads generally. Its year's
receipts were $641,520.76. Expenses $189,384.21, leaving a net profit
of $152,186.55, out of which $30,000 of debt and $162,742 of dividends
have been paid, and 1000 bales of cotton and 40 negroes purchased at a
cost of $128,211. The cotton is held as a means to procure rolling
stock, &c., after the blockade is raised. The road and rolling
stock are much deteriorated. |
This road has done much work gratuitously for benevolent
and patriotic purposes, and the government transportation has been at
$200,000 below regular rates.
