We clip the following items
from the Jefferson Herald of the 8th: |
We were informed, by Captain
Pratt that the {Memphis, El Paso & Pacific} Rail Road, in the course of construction from this
place to Moore's Landing, notwithstanding the hard times, is going on,
without any difficulty, and that it will be completed as soon as its
most sanguine friends could hope for. |

Iron for the Railroad |
Col. Thos. C. Bates,
Contractor to supply iron for the Memphis, El Paso & Pacific
Railroad, writes under date of January 17th. from New York, to a
gentleman in this city, that he expects to contract for twenty-five
miles of iron for our road, and for ten miles of road in time to reach
us by the navigation of the present season. Col. Bates writes like a
patriot and a gentleman on the questions now convulsing the country. |
