The iron upon many of our
railroads is fast wearing out, and it seems that there are not the
necessary efforts being made to replace it. If there are no foundries
in the South competent to roll railroad iron they ought to be erected
at once. The blockade runners have never brought any freight of this
kind. It would not be a bad idea for some of our rich corporations to
buy a ship for the purpose, unless they can make the iron themselves. |
