The A. T. & Ohio Rail Road {Atlantic,
Tennessee & Ohio RR} |
We are pleased to learn by the Iredell
Express that the trains now run over the A. T. & Ohio Rail Road,
from Charlotte to the depot at Statesville, transporting freight and
passengers. The connection was made last week. We shall embrace an
early opportunity and have more to say about this Road; the great
benefit which it will confer upon the public; and the untiring energy
of the gentleman, Mr. Wm. Johnston, to whose wisdom and labors the
people of Western North Carolina are indebted for the inauguration of
an enterprise which will bring prosperity to their doors, and put
untold millions in their pockets, during forthcoming years. |
Col. Wm. Johnston, the efficient President
of the above Road, is entitled to the credit of the rapid
construction, durable workmanship and economy, which has produced one
of the best and most important highways in the Southern Confederacy. |
