Atlanta, Dec. 14, 1864 |
Scouts sent in the direction
of Chattanooga, returned last evening. They report the Western &
Atlantic Railroad destroyed to Resaca. The cross ties have been burned
and the iron burnt and twisted. From Resaca the iron has been hauled
towards Dalton -- none of it being seen along the track. |
The business portions of all
the towns along the road have been destroyed, either by fire or torn
down. |
The depots of the road, with
the exception of the one at Alatoona, have been burned. Most of the
telegraph wires (two lines) still remains along the road. |

But two cars of any kind, one
flat and one box, were left on the road. ***** |
The
{Atlanta &} West Point Road is progressing rapidly. The cars run
to Palmetto today. They will go to Fairburn in a few days. |
The Macon & Western "drags its
slow length along," and has not reached Jonesboro. The trains run about
one mile this side of Lovejoy's. ***** |
