***** The railroad from a few miles
beyond Palmetto down to this place {about 15 miles
on the Atlanta & West Point RR} has been torn up more or less by
our forces, and the iron conveyed away to more secure localities. This
has also been done upon the Macon & Western Road to Barnesville (fifteen
miles South of Griffin) {probably about 15 miles},
and Sherman would find it difficult to move anything like a large force
in either direction, even had he the inclination so to do. ***** |
