The Way to the Army |
"Burley," the very trustworthy
and intelligent army correspondent of the Southern Confederacy, writing
under a recent date, says: "The Alabama and the Tennessee River Railroad
{Alabama & Tennessee River RR} runs from
Selma to Blue Mountain, a distance of 135 miles. I suppose I hazzard
nothing in saying it is the best road in the Confederacy, kept in good
condition, averaging over twenty miles an hour. The principal towns
through which it passes are Plantersville, Montevallo Columbiana and
Talladega. The capacity of the road will be taxed to the utmost, and it
is a subject of congratulation that everything is in such good order. |
