Explosion of a Locomotive |
Yesterday morning, shortly
after five o'clock, an explosion was heard in the city, that shook many
of the houses. The cause was unknown to the greater portion of our
citizens, but upon inquiry we learned that the locomotive "Ocklocknee"
had exploded her boiler while standing in the yard of the
{Atlantic &} Gulf Depot. At
the tie of the explosion she was attached to a lumber train, preparing
to go up the road. The engineer, Mr. William Sparks, had just oiled the
machinery, and was the only person near the engine when she exploded,
and was considerably scalded. The engine was torn to pieces by the
explosion, and is a complete wreck. |
