The Augusta and Columbia Road

The following resolutions
relating to the Augusta & Columbia Railroad have passed the South
Columbia Railroad have passed the South Carolina Legislature: |
Whereas, the operations of the
enemy on the Southern coast look to a severance of railroad
communication between this State and Georgia, and as a sequence cutting
off all supplies from the armies east of the Savannah river And whereas,
a corporation has been organized to construct a railroad direct from
Columbia to Augusta, and has several hundred hands now employed in the
gradation of the same: |
Resolved, By the Senate and
House of Representatives, that the speedy completion of said Columbia &
Augusta railroad is regarded as of the highest military necessity, and
that the Secretary of War is hereby requested to extend to the said
company every facility in details, labor, clothing, and provisions,
necessary for the speedy completion of the same. |
Resolved, That the Governor be
requested to present a copy of the foregoing to the Secretary of War,
and co-operate with him in any measures necessary to ensure the early
completion of the Columbia and Augusta railroad. |
