A Railroad Convention,
representing some two hundred millions of dollars, has just been held in
Chattanooga, and I am happy to inform you that they fully endorsed the
action and recommendation of the Bank Convention. They agree to receive
Treasury notes for fare and freights, and to transport troops and
supplied at reduced rates; important through freight tariffs were
established from New Orleans to Richmond and other points. The shrewd
President of the Georgia Central Railroad was there to look out for the
interest of Savannah and his road. |
Can you tell me how it is that
the South Carolina Road was not represented at this important meeting?
My experience is, that if we do not look after our own interests, others
will not be likely to do it for us. was pleased to see the worthy
President of the Northeastern and the Superintendent of the Charleston &
Savannah Roads at the Convention. |
