Latest News From General Forrest's Command |
A correspondent, writing from the West,
under date of 13th inst., says: |
***** By his order, the Memphis &
Charleston Railroad is to be repaired and put in order east of Corinth.
The cars on the Mobile & Ohio Railroad are running through to Corinth
daily. The Southern {(of Mississippi)}
Railroad is repaired to Brandon, and will be completed to Pearl River by
the 20th inst. The {Mississippi} Central
Railroad will be completed from Canton to Jackson by the 1st of June,
and it is said that Pearl River Bridge will be put up this summer. The
trains on the Mississippi Central and Mississippi & Tennessee Railroads
run alternate days. A hand car, drawn by horses, runs from Panola to
Senatobia. Efforts are now being made to put the New Orleans and Jackson
Railroad {New Orleans, Jackson & Great Northern
RR} in running order south of Jackson as far as Camp Moore. So,
it seems, we are repairing the damage done by the Yankee vandals and
robbers. |
