Terrible Railroad Accident |
Florence, S. C., November 27 |
The down mail train, on the Wilmington &
Manchester Railroad, which left Kingville yesterday afternoon, met with
a terrible accident last night, near Middle Swamp, about three miles
west of Florence. One of the iron rails broke, throwing the last
passenger car from the track and down an embankment, instantly killing
two ladies -- the Misses Mewbold, of Wilmington -- who had entered the
car at Lynchburg, S. C. The mother of these young ladies is so seriously
injured that it is feared she cannot recover. Thirteen other passengers
were wounded -- more or less dangerously -- several of them having limbs
broken. No other names are given. |
