| Council Proceedings |
| At a regular meeting of the City Council
last evening ***** |
| Alderman Kenifick offered the following,
which was adopted unanimously: |
| Resolved, That the Mayor be
requested to address the Presidents of the several Railroad Companies on
the propriety of appropriating a limited number of cars on
certain days of the week for the transportation of fire wood for the
benefit of the citizens generally, and also that he confer with the
General commanding this military department on the subject. |
| The Mayor stated that the matter, which
was becoming a very grave one, had already been the subject of his
serious consideration. That, in consequence of military affairs, the
Charleston & Savannah Road cannot relieve us, nor can the South Carolina
Road, and that the Northeastern Road, with its other engagements, cannot
transport more than fifty cords a day {about 10
car loads}, or about four hundred cords a week. |
