Railroad Accident |
The train from Memphis {Memphis,
Clarksville & Louisville RR} was several hours behind time
on Thursday night, on account of the breaking of one of the trucks of
the Express car. The truck, from some cause, bursted into pieces, two
of the wheels flying off and the other two straddling one of the
rails. The coupling held up the end of the car until the train was
stopped. It was a remarkable escape of the train, as from the peculiar
position of the disconnected wheels the other cars were liable to be
thrown off at any moment. The train, which was running very fast at
the time, ran from a half to three quarters of a mile after the
accident occurred. |
