Rail Road Accident |
|
We understand that an accident, involving
a considerable loss of property, occurred on the Wilmington &
Manchester Rail Road, on Monday afternoon. A train of cars from
Wilmington for Augusta, principally laden with coffee, whiskey and a
general assortment of blockade goods, was passing over Green Swamp
Bridge, near Sumter Court House, when, after the engine and five cars
had safely crossed, the bridge gave way, and the seven remaining cars
were precipitated into the swamp, a distance of fifteen feet, crushing
the cars and distributing the contents in every direction. More
"real coffee" has been drunk in that neighborhood within a
few days, than for a long time previously. |
