Explosion of a Locomotive |
On Friday night we were
informed by passengers on the State Road {Western
& Atlantic RR} that an explosion of a Locomotive took place
that day on the Nashville {& Chattanooga} Road
as the train was approaching Chattanooga, killing the fireman and
engineer, and one soldier from Mississippi who was standing with the
engineer. Several on the train were scalded. The engineer, being in
conversation with the soldier, neglected too long to supply the engine
with water. It got dry and red hot, and when water was let on, the
locomotive exploded instantly. |
