State Road Bridges {Western
& Atlantic RR} |
We fear these bridges are not
sufficiently guarded. When the guard was increased after the engine
thieves were caught, we then thought it was not sufficient, and
certain considerations induce us to believe the guard, admitting it to
have been enough then, is not now. We again urge a strong force to be
stationed at those bridges, well armed -- fully sufficient to repel
any dashing cavalry attack of a regiment of the enemy. There is too
much at stake and too much depending on the preservation of these
bridges to risk an insufficient guard there. A plenty of men of the
right stamp can be had. Let them be placed at the bridges forthwith. |
