Arrest of a Railroad Conductor |
John Atkins, the conductor of
the train on the Fredericksburg railroad {Richmond,
Fredericksburg & Potomac RR}, that was captured on Sunday
last by the Yankees at Ashland, was arrested yesterday by Captain
Macubbin's police, on suspicion of disloyalty and treachery, and
intentionally running the train into the possession of the enemy. The
suspicion against him, it is alleged, is strengthened by the fact that
he heard the signal to stop the train, and saw the fire on the track,
but neglected to check the train. Atkins was arrested in Manchester,
and resisted considerably. He was confined in Castle Thunder to await
an investigation. |
