How is this? |
We learn that several car
loads of mess beef which came down the State Road {Western
& Atlantic RR}, for rations for the soldiers here, have
been standing out in the rain and sunshine near the depot for two or
three days. Has the confederate Government no commissary at this post?
Is there no "part of the Administration" here to look after
such matters? We have lost millions of dollars worth of meat by
retreating and leaving it, being utterly unable to remove it. Are we
also to lose it after it is brought here? If this be the way -- if we
lose it where it is made and packed and lose what is brought away, our
soldiers will be in a suffering condition before long. |
