Serious Accident |
We learn that quite a serious
accident occurred at the car shed last night, to an accomplished lady,
the wife of a distinguished officer now in Virginia. The accident was
caused by the gross and culpable neglect of the railroad company, or
whoever has the matter in charge, in allowing the rotten planks to
remain unrepaired for the last year, at the open space at each end of
the car shed, with dangerous holes at almost every alternate plank. It
appears the lady was passing from the hotel to take the cars, when by
the "moon's pale light" alone to guide her, she did not
discover these dangerous traps -- and "stepped in," badly
injuring her left ankle. She is consulting one of the ablest law firms
in the city, and will commence suit for heavy damages, which she will
doubtless gain, and we hope the amount will far exceed the cost, of
having this work properly repaired, as it should have been ere this.
We shall watch the progress of this affair with much interest. |
