Accident on the Brunswick {&
Albany} Railroad |
We learn that the locomotive
Augusta exploded on Wednesday last, on the Brunswick Railroad, while
on her way to Tebeauville, No. 9 Gulf Railroad, killing Mr. Powell,
the engineer, and a negro man named Ben, a fireman, belonging to Dr.
Hazelhurst. Another engineer, whose name we could not learn, was badly
scalded. We learn that Mr. Powell leaves a wife and two children. The
explosion took place just as the engine passed over the bridge on the
Satilla. The engine, we learn, was an old one. The explosion was a
severe one, and Mr. Powell's body was blown to pieces -- his head was
found about a quarter of a mile from the place where the accident
occurred. |
