In obedience to the orders of
Governor Letcher, Washington Gill, esq., Engineer, and Henry E.
Lehman, Assistant, are now on a visit to Petersburg for the purpose of
connecting the various lines of railroad. This, when accomplished,
will greatly facilitate the rapid transmission of troops. A grand
corps d'armee of 100,000 men, could be thrown into Alexandria upon a
few hours' notice. |
