Valley Rail Road |
The bill which was before the
General Assembly, at the last session, to incorporate the Valley Rail
Road Company, authorizes the continuation of a railroad from
Harrisonburg (the western terminus of the Manassas Gap road) to a point
on the Virginia & Tennessee road, in the county of Roanoke. It also
authorizes an amalgamation of said Company with the Manassas Gap
Company, under the name of the late and, in case of a failure o to do,
with the Central Company. By referring to the State map, it will readily
be seen that the construction of this road ill render "necessary" the
much litigated Strasburg extension. The bill did not pass, and it is
hoped that it never will. I trust all who feel an interest in Alexandria
will keep their eyes open to it, and see that it be not allowed to slip
through by reason of its not containing an appropriation, as was the
case with the charter by means of which the Winchester
{& Potomac} Rail Road Company hope to
secure the Strasburg connection, and many similar charters. |
