The Capture of Selma |
The Columbus Sun of April 5,
contains a letter from Montgomery dated, April 3: |
***** |
A column of 10,000 is said to
be advancing from Montevallo to cut the M. and W. P. Railroad. |
The sun of the 5th in its
remarks on the situation says: |
The train from Montgomery
{Montgomery & West Point RR} did not arrive
until 8 o'clock last night. Its detention, as we learn, having been
caused by the numerous trains running out of Montgomery loaded with
Government stores, we presume, and property of those who anticipate that
that city will be visited by the enemy. |
The train last night brought
many refugees from Selma and Montgomery, principally women and children;
other trains we learn, were to have arrived last night. |
The Montgomery post office has
sent off their letter mails to this city, where they arrived last night. |
