A destructive fire occurred in
Columbia, S. C. Jan. 24, on the premises of the Charlotte
{& South Carolina} Railroad Company,
resulting in the loss of a storehouse, belonging to the company, and a
portion of the roof of the adjoining round house. A large amount of
provisions and railroad tools were destroyed, a part of which belonged
to the Hamburg railroad. Loss estimated at about $800,000. It originated
in a store room from which a negro was sent to bring oil. The fire was
accidental. |
