| Terrible Railroad Accident |
| 26 Men Killed |
| Barnwell, Sept. 2 |
| |
| The up freight train on the
Western & Macon {Macon & Western} Railroad
collided today two miles above this place with a train of wounded
soldiers. Twenty-six men were killed, and one lady, a Miss Saffen, of
Memphis. |
| Major Saunders, of Savannah,
and Lieut. Bond, of Garrett's battery, are among the killed. |
| The scene beggars description
-- over one hundred wounded badly. |
