We had the pleasure,
yesterday, of meeting with Col. Wm. Johnston, the accomplished
President of the Augusta & Columbia
{Columbia & Augusta} and Charlotte & South
Carolina Rail Road Companies. We are gratified to learn that a fair
prospect obtains of a short and speedy connection with our friends in
Columbia. About four hundred hands are at work on the two ends of the
A. & C. Rail Road, while the planters of Edgefield are ready to
complete the central portion. This Road will be of immense service to
the people and Government and has been too long overlooked. |
