Blockade Prices |
The Wilmington Journal of the
12th contains the following report of a catalogue sale of blockade goods
in that city on the 11th: |
{about 165 items
priced, including the following RR-related items} |
Cut nails |
$1.40 to 1.85 per lb |
Shovels |
$40 |
Railroad iron |
$1.60 per lb |
Kerosene oil |
$30 |
Sperm oil |
$61.50 |
Gum shellac |
$6 |
|
The rest
of the items were non-railroad and mostly luxury items. Still, there is
an entry for RR iron. Though the quantity is not indicated, the price
would be about $600 for ONE bar of rack (21 feet long). At that price,
the iron sold must have been some specialty item (though this would
normally be indicated in such a listing). |
