Macon & Western Railroad |
We are indebted to this
company for a copy of their Annual Report for the year ending Nov.
30th, 1862. It shows, |
Gross earnings |
$339,919.05 |
Expenses |
184,014.15 |
Net increase |
$155,904.90 |
|
This is a net decrease from
the business of last year of $64,698.79, which is less than we
anticipated. |
The Road has made three
dividends during the year -- purchased heavily of rails and supplies,
and exhibits a cash balance of $66,821. |
The report and tables
accompanying it are very elaborate -- comparing minutely the business
of the road in every department with that of previous years, and
making a very full and perfect expose of its condition and operations
in every particular. All possible retrenchment and economy have been
used in the working and management, and the actual rates of receipts
to expenses, not withstanding the large decline of business, is very
nearly, the same as last year. The whole document leaves no space for
doubt that this enterprise has been managed with great economy and
good judgment, Isaac Scott, Esq., President; A. L. Tyler, Esq.,
Superintendent. |
