| Dear Sir, |
| I have this day made the
applications for Dill and Lawrence but can encourage you to but little
hope. The Secy of War positively declines new details till the campaign
is over. Lawrence can only be had by the consent of his present employer
and this I cannot anticipate he will give. The effort tomorrow shall be
made in both cases. |
