Major, |
Your reply to General Order #5 is correct. In regards to
Maj Johns I would advise you not to trouble yourself. Our business is
not the regular Quarter Masters business, and you will not heed any
instruction that relate to matters outside of our duties. Our duties are
specific and do not embrace the various details of the Q. M. D. In fact
we are simply in the Department to reconcile an inconsistency that would
be created by our appointment in the A. & I. G. Department, and I am not
disposed to put myself on an equality with everyone who has the same
rank with myself. |
I cannot possibly leave Richmond for any length of time but
will be in Petersburg Friday {Feb. 12}.
Cant you come up & meet me. |
I sympathise in your disappointment about Newbern, but the
affair has not been without good results. W????? |
Yours Truly |
