Memorandum of agreement entered into between the Atlantic & North Carolina
Rail Road Company and Chamberlain & Co Importers of British Supplies for
this Government and the Atlantic & North Carolina Rail Road Company,
Witnesseth; That the said Chamberlain & Co agree to purchase in England a
certain list of supplies for the Atlantic & North Carolina Rail Road
Company, as per statement market (A) being part of this contract. They
are to be purchased from first class Dealers and at the lowest market rates
and delivered to said Atlantic & North Carolina Rail Road Company or their
Agent during the months of November, December, January and February next at
some port in the possession of the Government of the Confederate States and
at which the Government freight brought on the same vessel shall be
delivered; Upon the delivery of the articles purchased by said Chamberlain &
Co for said Atlantic & North Carolina Rail Road Company in good order and
within the time specified, and upon producing the original english invoices,
the said Atlantic & North Carolina Rail Road Co agree to pay to the said
Chamberlain & Co or their assigns in Confederate Treasury notes, or eight
per cent Treasury Bonds, three times the amount of said original english
invoices and that said payment is to be in full for all purchasing,
commissions, charges for insurance, freight or other transportation
expenses. |
The list of supplies to be furnished under
this agreement is to be attached hereto. |
