Col P. Mallet
Commandant of Conscripts for NoCa.

Col.,
On yesterday Davies E Lawrence one of the Locomotive Engineers of this Company was arrested by order of the conscript officer at this place & sent to Raleigh, Mr Lawrence has been on the service of this Company for some time & his name was returned to you both in May & June as one of the employees of the Co & in accordance with your letter of the 19th March last & instruction in Circular No 813rd pages from the Bureau of Conscription Richmond so far as I know all the instructions regulations & laws in reference to this subject have been complied with thereupon I wrote you to ascertain why the man was arrested & taken from our service. A Locomotive Engineer is currently indispensable to the efficient operations of a Rail Road.
I apprehend there is some mistake about the matter & I just beg you to look into it at once & have him sent back.
Yours Very Resp
