Dear Sir,
|
I desire to call your attention to Mr C. R. McQuertion
a machinist who left in the Ad Vance {the
Advance was a State of North Carolina blockade runner} while
we were at Columbia. I had refused him permission to go the very day
we left Wilmington but with an old certificate of ill health some
month ago when he was very sick & unable to work the Govt Agent
Siexas had promised to get him on as an Engineer for a few trips for
the benefit of his health.
|
With this paper he obtained a pass from Genl Whiting,
much to our regret, as he was one of the best machinists we had.
|
I mention the facts strait the Govt ??? is now ??? the
President & Superintendent of this Road did not consent to his
going & would have prevented it had we been here.
|
Nr Roberts of the Clarendon Iron Works has gone on to
Richmond I heard to complain of his machinists being taken away and
to report the company unto President for allowing this Mt M &
Question to leave their shops.
|
The above are the facts that can be Qastarnied
per whenever necessary
|
Respectfully &c
|
