Sir,
|
I met Maj. Bolling today in the
street & he informed me that the Road Iron sent on by you in
relation to the seizure of 11 miles of the iron of the Wilmn Charlotte
& Rutherford RR.. |
He also mentioned to me that 2 miles of
the iron would be allotted to the Wilmn & Manchester RR. This
surprised me much, for I had supposed that if that iron should be
seized it would be apportioned entirely (that is 11 miles of it) to
this road. I hope that you will pardon me the remark, that when taken
the strongest claim upon it is presented by my road. It is utterly
impossible for my road to be kept up for more than six months unless
we are furnished with 10 or 15 miles of iron. This depreciation in our
rails has been caused by the large amt of Govt transportation done on
the road, & it is but just that where iron is to be seized right
here at ??? own doors that this road should have the benefit of it,
independent of the obligation of the Govt to do so, if it proposes to
have its transportation continued over this road for any length of
time. I beg of you my dear Sir, to look at this matter in time before
it may be too late to ??? good & benefit the Govt. If rails could
be gotten elsewhere hereafter for us, the heavy cost of transportation
would only be added to the cost & a good deal of time necessarily
lost, that may also be saved. |
Hoping that you will give this subject the
consideration which we all constrained to believe it is entitled to,
& believing that you will do so. |
I am Sir, |
Very Respectfully |
Yours & CC |
