Thompson a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid ??? Reynard

Keeper at Dalton Ga who being duly sworn, deposeth & saith that the (20)
Twenty Packages of sacks said to contain (5000) Five Thousand sacks,
shipped from Atlanta Ga by Maj Wm Bacon on the 3rd of Sept 1863 to Capt
T. L. Macon AQM and (20) Twenty Packages of sacks, said to contain
(5000) Five Thousand Sacks and shipped from Atlanta on the 5th of Sept
1863 by Maj Wm Bacon to Capt J L Macon AQM, did not arrive at this place
until after the order to evacuate the place by Genl Bushrod Johnson was
received, which was about the 9th Sept 1863 & That the above mentioned
Sacks were not received by Capt T. L. Macon, but were shipped back to
Atlanta by me, to prevent them falling into the hands of the enemy. |
