I met with Col Wadley a few days ago,
and as he had been at Dalton some time since, he was down on me for
the inefficiency of the management at your place, that our cars were
standing loaded and unloaded, and that it should be otherwise. If
our cars cant be unloaded by E T & Geo Rd {East
Tennessee & Georgia RR} inform Mr Walker at once, and I
will have Frts stopped for that Rd until they can take it, no cars
of our Rd should be idle now, the people are suffering for bread in
Cherokee Geo, and if Rds below cant bring it I must send trains to
SW Geo for it. I am well satisfied you lack hands to do the
necessary work, this should not be so, cost what they may, as the Rd
should not suffer on account of salaries being too low, as I am
willing for the Rd to pay, for extraordinary business, when I know
it to be so. I hope you will stir up things. Our Depot is now wanted
to store goods in. Please notify the gentleman who has it that he
must get another place. The use of our Depot at this time, to store
goods in that are daily standing loaded, and we deprived of the use
of our cars, it would be worth thousands to us. The rent is no
object whatever. I regret the necessity of disturbing the gentleman
that occupies a portion of it, as I have a high regard for him, but
the business of the State Road must not be crippled in its business.
The Government will not expect its officers to interfere with any
property belonging to the State Road. |
Very Respectfully |

Superintendt {Western
& Atlantic RR} |
