Head Quarters, Camp of Instruction |
Camp Holms, November 11th 1862 |

Hon. Geo. W. Randolph |
Secretary of War |
Richmond, Va. |
|
Sir, |
Your attention is respectfully invited to the enclosed
extract from a letter of the President of the Western Rail Road
Company. {NA, W 11-9-6} |
Application was made to me for the exemption of an
overseer on the Road who was liable to conscription, which I
refused, on the ground that I had no authority to detail men on
private contracts of Roads in course of construction. |
The facts stated in the accompanying communication are
true, and the construction of this Road would undoubtedly add
materially to the facility and efficiency of the iron works in the
Deep River region. |
Respectfully referring the matter for your consideration, |
I am, Sir, Very respectfully, |
Your Obt Servant |
Peter Mallett |
Major & A. A. G. P. A. C. S. |
