Dear Sr, |
This will introduce to you my
friend Mr N. S. Carpenter, the General Superintendent of the Wilmington
& Charlotte Rail Road. He visits Raleigh for the purpose of adjusting
the acts of transportation of troops on his Rail Road. Owing to peculiar
circumstances, he has not been able to obtain the regular Quarter
Masters certificates; the troops presenting themselves at the road,
without it & the question was whether to let them stay until proper
papers could be made out, or let them go at once to their place of
destination, he chose the latter from patriotic feelings & there can be
no doubt as to the road performing the services as represented by the
papers in his possession. Will you do me the favor of advising him &
placing him in the right tract to secure the prompt payment of his
claims. |
