Capt, |
Owing to the late and repeated
heavy rains, which has injured the track very much, washed away some
culverts, damaged bridges, which can not be repaired permanently
without cross ties & suitable timbers. |
I respectfully represent to
Gen Walker the necessity of an order giving me authority to use any
timber near the Rail Road for cross ties & square timber to repair
culverts & bridges. Dr Frances Moore in the beginning of the war
went north, where his family lived near Philadelphia, he recently died
in the United States leaving lands near the RR in Washington Co
unconfiscated also Jacob S. Harvey whose lands are alien enemies
property please send me an order to use the timber for RR purposes.
All the saw mills near Houston are either in the employment or under
the control of the Govt. and private persons cannot get sawed timber
from them without a special order from Hd. Qr to have it sawed for two
reasons. When applied to they profess to be in the Govt Service and
cannot saw for private citizens without specie. |
The Brazos River Bridge is
liable to fall, an over flow which is anticipated may take it off
without necessary repairs, iron & sawed timber as required I have
no money to purchase them. I must respectfully entreat Gen. Walker to
have me paid for past services. I can do nothing without iron timber
& money. |
I am Capt |
Very respectfully |
