Dear Sir, |
I have made enquiries in
relation to the condition of the Texas & N. O. RR {Texas
& New Orleans RR} from the Supt Mr Morris. He says that the
road from here to Beaumont is in order, but from Beaumont to Orange
the road is out of repair & cannot be gotten ready under two or
three weeks without the Govmt furnishes about three hundred
negroes |
All the tressel work is down
for the distance of a mile in the Neches Bottom. I do not think you
can base any calculations on the Road beyond Beaumont for at least one
month. |
From Beaumont to Nibbletts
Bluff by water is about 80 miles. I presume Comdr Smith will be able
to furnish some two or three St Boats for Transportation when wanted.
The "Florida" belonging to the RR Co will carry (1000) one
Thousand men and can be also used. The Milty Superintendent (Col E L
Herriot) will be in town this evening & doubtless can give you
more information about the road than I can. |
Very Resply |
