Office of the Texas & New Orleans Rail Road Company |
Houston, Texas, December 5th 1862 |

Col X. B. Debray
|
Commanding Mil Sub Dist of Houston |
|
Sir, |
I submit herewith an estimate of cost,
labor &c for the purpose of connecting the Railroad near Beaumont.
I think the Estimate low, but think it will cover cost. Any extra
labor of course will be charged. You understand that this plan is to
take up the Rails on the lower end of the track and bring them under
cover of night, above Taylors Bayou. |
The track south of the Bayou can be of no
use, so long as the enemy are in possession of Sabine Pass with their
Gun Boats as it will be, and is in point blank range of their guns
whenever they may see fit to put themselves in position. |
The commanding gen'l approving this plan,
I will be ready to begin operating Monday Night with Col Speight's
assistance. |
Yours Respectfully |
A. M. Gentry Prst &c |
