Endorsement on letter of date Aug. 16, 1864 from Chas. T. Pollard Prest. to the Qf Master Genl. stating that the Montgomery & West Point R. R. Co. & the Alabama & Florida {(of Alabama)} R. R. Co. declining to comply with Genl. Lawton's circular of date the 28th ult. proposing terms of settlement to the Rail Road Companies & insisting on payment in Treasury notes as follows
Qr Master General. Mr. Pollard requires payment in full in Treasury notes. It is for the Qr Master Genl to determine how soon payment should be made.

Endorsement on letter of date Aug. 20, 1864 from Maj. Jno. W. Cameron to the Qr Master Genl, stating that the Atlantic & N. C. R. R. Co. decline to accede to his circular proposing terms of settlement to the Rail Road Companies & enclosing a letter from the Prest. of the Rail Road to that effect as follows viz

Endorsements on letter of date Aug. 16, 1864 from Maj. Thos. M. Le Baron to the Qr Master Genl. stating that the Mobile & Great Northern Rail Road Co. accepts the terms of settlement proposed in the circular of the 28th July & that the Mobile & Ohio R. R. Co. declined those terms, as follows
The Secy of the Treasury respectfully recommends a prompt settlement of the amt. to the Qr Master General, of the Mobile & Great Northern R. R. Co.

   The report of the Ohio & Mobile R. R. Co seems to offer no alternative but payment in Treasury notes. The time of payment must of course be left to the discretion of the Qr Master General

Endorsement on letter without dates from James L Price President of the Ala. & Miss. {Rivers} Rail Road Co to Capt J. C. Graham A. Q. M. stating that the Company declines to comply with the circular of the Qr Master General of the 28th July but would accept two thirds in cash & the balance in the Confederate ??? non-taxable bonds at one hundred & thirty five pr. hundred, as follows viz:
Quarter Master General. The mode of settlement promised by this Company is satisfactory to this Department.

Endorsement on letter of date Aug 17, 1864 from C. E. Thomas to Capt. J. G. Graham A. Q. M. stating that the Ala & Tenn. River Rail Road Co. declines to accede to the terms of the circular of the Qr. Master Genl. but would accept one third now due by the Government in the non taxable Bonds of the five hundred million load.
Qr Master Genl. The intention no doubt is to receive the bonds at the treasury price of $135 & accruing interest. On these terms the proposition is satisfactory as far as this Department is concerned.
