General Orders No. 198 |

I. The Commanding Officers of all troops,
Confederate as well as State, stationed at points in the interior, are
directed to build all bridges and keep the roads in good order from
the points at which they are stationed to the Rail Roads. |
This is necessary, in order that troops
may move with facility, and that rapid communication may be kept up at
all seasons, and in any state of weather, with the various Commands.
It is strictly enjoined upon all Commanding Officers to see that this
Order is executed. |
II. Lieut. Sam'l L. Smith is hereby
relieved from duty in the Engineer Corps, and is assigned to duty on
the Staff of the Maj. Gen. Commanding, as Acting aide-de-Camp, during
the absence of Lieut. Stauard. |
