I beg leave to report on the
enclosed paper to wit: That the Government boats under my charge are
doing all the Govt transportation required on the canal. When this
demand for transportation decreased these boats are transferred
temporarily to the James and Appomattox Rivers and with the aid of Steam
Tugs used in transporting Govt freight from Petersburg and landing on
the Rivers to Richmond, thereby relieving to a great extent the heavy
pressure of freight over the Richd & Petersburg R R. ***** |
